Full Moon Ritual: Forgiveness & Releasing
As a Certified Moonologer™, my favorite time for a full moon ritual is just before the moon is full. You can check an almanac (this is my favorite) or online resources for the exact time that the moon is full in your location. (Not an affiliate link, it’s what I use every day).
This simple full moon ritual harnesses the potent energies of the full moon. It’s one you can use every full moon to do a bit of forgiveness and to release what’s no longer serving you.
Your Simple Full Moon Ritual
To begin:
- Take a few minutes to just sit with yourself.
- Breathe deeply and evenly.
- Release any tension or anxiety that you sense in your body.
Once you feel calm, focus your attention on what you want to release from your life now.
This might be a bad habit, an unhelpful thought or mindset, emotional baggage, a pattern of behavior that isn’t serving you or it might even be physical stuff, like clutter. List everything you can think of.
Writing things down gives power to your intentions.
Once you’ve completed your list of things to release with this full moon ritual then turn your attention to making a list of people you need to forgive.
- Are you holding onto old hurts?
- Maybe something from your childhood?
- Did someone say something about you that you haven’t let go?
- A bit of gossip about you that sticks in your crawl?
- Is there a parent, friend, teacher, sibling or co-worker that you need to forgive?
- Do you need to forgive yourself? (this one is very important)
Tip: you might want to put yourself on your forgiveness list more than once if you find regrets about something popping up.
Write down everything you can come up with.
If there’s people you need to forgive, list out their names and as many details of what you need to forgive as you want to.
Once you’ve made your list, then begin to bring those folks on your list into your mind.
Visualize them surrounded by pink or green (the colors of the heart chakra). Visualize good feelings and harmony between the two of you. Feel this as real in your heart.
Say to them that you forgive them and allow them to drift away as if in a bubble of forgiveness.
**Forgiveness burns karma. You are here to learn lessons and those folks who are to be your teachers are those with whom you have a soul contract. A soul contract is a pre-designed plan made before you incarnated that was mutually agreed upon by you and the other person. No matter how upset with them you are, they’re actually helping you by giving you the lessons you need for your highest and greatest good. You must take responsibility for the way it is now. You must forgive and release the karma. Forgive and move forward.
You Can Add This to Your Full Moon Ritual: Here’s the Moonology™ Full Moon Forgiveness & Release Formula:
“Under the glorious Full Moon, I forgive everything, everyone, every experience, every memory of the past or present that needs forgiveness. I forgive positively everyone. I also forgive myself of past mistakes. The Universe is love, and I am forgiven and governed by love alone. Love is now adjusting my life. Realizing this, I abide in peace.”
Recite this after you’ve allowed folks you’re forgiving to float off in bubbles of forgiveness.
If you’d like, you can also add this:
“I bring love and healing to all my thoughts, beliefs, and relationships. I learn my lessons and move on. I call on my soul fragments to be cleansed by the Full moon and I call on them to rejoin me. I send love to myself and everyone I know and everyone who knows me, in all directions of time. Under this glorious Full Moon, I am healed. My life is healed. And so it is. So be it.”
** Note: The Full Moon Forgiveness and Karma Release Formula are originally the work of Catharine Ponder and the late Charles Fillimore.
Now burn your forgiveness and release lists to further power up your release of these things. Be sure to do so safely! You don’t want to risk burning down the house!
It’s important to note here that your success with Manifesting at the New Moon is directly tied to your Forgiveness at the Full Moon. These two rituals work together.
Doing both has the power to absolutely change your life!
It’s also important to note that forgiveness isn’t about the other person, it’s about you.
It doesn’t excuse anyone for bad behavior, nor does it mean that those people deserve a seat at your table anymore. You can forgive someone without allowing them to have a place in your life.
Holding a grudge doesn’t serve you.
It’s best summed up by this quote: “Holding onto anger is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die”. – it’s been attributed to Buddha and Buddhist teacher Pema Chodron
Short on Time for Your Full Moon Ritual?
If time is short, then just do the list and burn it. Being sure to feel those things released and also feel gratitude for the lessons.
It’s better to do a shortened version than none at all. Modify it to fit the energy and/or time you have available.
Combining the Full Moon Ritual and the New Moon Ritual is a powerful way to manifest the things into your life that you really want, while getting rid of what you don’t and burning away the karma that might be keeping you from having your new moon wishes come true.
