The Green Witch’s Summer: Everyday Magick in June, July, and August

Summer is my favorite season. I think the reason for that is my Leo sun, but it might also be that I always seem to be cold. 😉

Summer is a season associated with radiance, light, growing and ripening since our gardens will begin to produce more this month. These things are present in the natural world, but also in our inner world.

At Ravynwood, we honor summer not just as a season, but as a wise guide too.

Warm, vibrant days invite us to bloom in full color.

One message of summer is that joy is sacred. Light illuminates our shadow and that alone is a certain kind of magick for us.

In this post, we’ll explore June, July, and August through the lens of everyday witchery—simple, seasonal practices to align your spirit with the rhythm of the Earth.

June:  Light & Growth

June brings the Summer Solstice, the longest daylight hours of the year.

Life is buzzing with energy, and the world feels wide open.

This is the perfect time for a mid-year reset. Celebrate how far you’ve come—and realign with any intentions that may have gone a bit murky since January.

Love simple celebrations? Then you’ll love this post on celebrating Summer Solstice simply.

Everyday Magick for June:

  • Get up early to watch the sunrise and greet the sun with gratitude.

  • Make flower crowns with blooms from your garden or use wildflowers from a nearby field.

  • Create a solar water infusion by placing a glass of water with lemon or mint in direct sunlight for a few minutes and sipping it with intention.

  • Decorate your altar with golds, yellows, sunflowers, and any symbols that mean abundance to you.

  • Dance or walk outside barefoot—use movement as a ritual of celebration.

How can I honor that growth by carrying its energy forward?

 July: Sun & Shadow

The month of July brings a bit of intensity as the temperatures get higher, gardens begin to overflow with fresh produce and there’s a fullness about summer now.

For me, this is the time when I feel most called to do shadow work.

The juxtaposition of light and shadow is something we embrace here at Ravynwood.

Shadow work in summer may seem counterintuitive, but it’s actually powerful. The sun’s brilliance helps us see clearly what needs to be healed.

Because shadow work can feel overwhelming, and we love simplicity, we’ve create a course that breaks it down into 4 weeks. Each week focuses on a different aspect.

Here’s the sacred framework for this 4 week Shadow Work journey:

  • Awareness of Your Shadow
  • Acknowledging Shadow in Your Life
  • Integrating Your Shadow
  • Releasing

Everyday Magick for July:

  • Journal or meditate in the shade of your favorite tree. Let your thoughts flow like the sun through the leaves of the tree.
  • Make sun tea or regular iced tea (or even plain water will do) with herbs like lemon balm, mint, or hibiscus. These herbs bring a joy and cooling energy to your beverages..
  • Tend to your garden or windowsill plants—notice what is thriving and what needs more support to grow.
  • Watch the sunset as often as you can and reflect on what you’re releasing as the light fades from the sky.
  • Use smoke cleansing with rosemary or mugwort to clear any mental and emotional heat.

Journal Prompt for July:

What part of me is asking to be witnessed right now—even if it feels uncomfortable?

What is the heat of this summer season illuminating within me?

August: Harvesting & Integration

August holds the first whispers of fall, even as the sun still blazes. It begins with Lammas, the first harvest festival, calling us into a sacred pause.

This month is about gathering what we’ve sown—in our gardens, our hearts, and our spiritual work.

At Ravynwood, August is a time of integration, where we hold both the abundance and the endings that go with it, in sacred balance.

Everyday Magick for August:

  • Create a personal altar. Include symbols of what you’re harvesting—photos, found objects, or anything meaningful to you

  • Begin to notice the subtle shift in the air. Earlier sunsets, the gold colors emerging in the natural landscape.

  • Gather blackberries or apples if they’re in season where you live. If you forage, be sure to leave some for the wildlife.

Journal Prompt for August:

What am I harvesting now?

What have I learned from what I’ve grown?

How can I put that wisdom to work in my life?

Final Thoughts on Summer

Summer teaches us that abundance isn’t always about more—it’s about noticing what’s already here.

The warmth of the sun on your skin.
The hum of bees. The sound of birdsong at dusk
The scent of your garden on your hands.

This is everyday magick.

As green witches walking the Ravynwood way, we live our practice not just in rituals and sabbats, but in the sacred simplicity of seasonal rhythms.

Summer is an invitation to bloom, to be bold, to laugh out loud, and to live from a place of rooted joy.
