Earthing 101: Take Off Your Shoes, Soothe Your Soul

Earthing is  a way to soothe your soul while you connect more with nature. When you’re grounding yourself in this way, you’re typically physically touching the Earth’s surface.  It could be sand at the beach, ocean water, the dirt in your garden, or the grass in your yard. It’s an easy way to connect with Mother Earth and it’s so easy to do.

This post takes a look at using earthing as a way to ground yourself.

(There are lots of other methods too – click here for 6 more.)

Understanding What Earthing Is

Let’s start by exploring what earthing really is. Earthing is about bringing yourself into the present moment, providing calm and stability.

This practice gets it’s name because you’re spending time in direct physical contact with the earth.

It doesn’t have to be your feet, though that’s the most common. Any time your skin touches the earth, you start enveloping those negatively-charged electrons.

It’s such an amazing way to relax, reduce anxiety, reduce stress, and even improve other important body systems.

It’s also versatile. You can do it anywhere you like that offers a safe location for kicking off your shoes and putting your bare feet on Mother Earth.

Being an empath, it can be hard to be in crowds of people for too long. I’ve already stepped out of a party to slip off my shoes and stand on the ground as a way to bring myself a bit of calm before returning to the event.

What are the benefits?

Not sure how it can help you?  Here are just some of the benefits:

You can reduce stress and tension – This is one of the top benefits you’ll get from earthing (or any other form of grounding) –  reducing stress and tension, and relieving your  anxiety.

It helps with your circulation – The negatively-charged electrons of the earth can also improve your circulation and even reduce inflammation in the body.

You feel centered – Want to feel more centered and in control? Give this  technique a go. Get outside, walk in the grass without shoes on, and suddenly everything makes so much more sense! Earthing brings you into the present moment, allowing balance in body, mind and spirit.

It can improve your balance – Many people have also found that earthing improves their balance. It has this way of balancing out your entire body and improving your strength and footing.

And here’s the thing, it’s just fun. Going barefoot is one of my favorite things of all time. Kicking off my shoes and feeling the cool earth under my feet is something that I do as often as I can.

Remember when you were a kid? Did you wear shoes unless you had to? I know for sure that I didn’t. As a grown-up, it gets a little harder to be barefoot, but indulge that little kid that still lives inside you.

Easy Ways to Add Earthing to Your Life

It’s actually really easy to start earthing on a regular basis. The best and easiest way to do it is by going outside on bare feet. Of course, you want to do this safely. Check the area first before you take your shoes off.

Some different areas to go barefoot include in the grass, in dirt, or in the sand at the beach. Going camping? Ditch your shoes when you find a bare spot of ground that looks safe to stand on.

If you are a competent swimmer, you can also submerse your body or even just go wading in natural forms of water, such as a lake or the ocean.  But remember, safety first!

You can also ground yourself by lying down on the grass in your yard, or even at a park. These are easy ways to get yourself into the present moment, relax, and live a more natural and balanced lifestyle by being one with nature and the earth.

Here are some other quick ways to ground yourself including my favorite!

Will you be giving earthing a try?

Blessed Be.
