There’s a wide variety of tools that you can use in your witchy practices.
You might choose tarot cards, wands, ritual clothing, herbs, feathers, talismans and so much more. But one of the favorite tools of many witches is crystals.
They’re certainly pretty, but there’s a lot more to them than just beauty. They hold both energy and frequency, which makes them a powerful addition to your witchy practices.
In this post, we’ll look at different ways of using crystals in your witchy life for both the magickal and the mundane.
Crystals for Manifesting
Manifesting with the cycles of the moon to tap into those lunar energies is something that many witches do. Crystals can also be used alongside your moon practices to help you draw your dreams into your life.
Three particularly good choices for manifesting are selenite, moonstone, and clear quartz.
- Just keeping these stones nearby while doing your manifesting rituals is enough to take advantage of the energies they offer.
- You can also be a bit more intentional with them by programming individual crystals to hold the intention of what you’re trying to manifest.
- You can choose a crystals that match what you’re trying to manifest to further tap into their energies.
For example, for manifesting love into your life, you can choose rose quartz for its association in finding love.
Cleanse and charge your chosen crystal before you begin your manifesting ritual. Set your intentions for using that crystal and then after your ritual, you can either leave your crystal under the full moon or hold it while you visualize your desire coming true.
Crystals for Meditation
Meditation is a powerful practice and one that is worth the time you’ll invest to create a practice that’s just right for you. Because it’s simple and effective, it’s one of the 6 Ravynwood Foundations.
The others are:
- Gratitude
- Self-care
- Energy Work – Reiki
- Healing Creativity
- Journaling
Tip: A habit tracker can help you establish and maintain your meditation practice.

Using crystals with your meditations is a beautiful way to bring crystals into your daily life as well as into your witchy practices.
- Let your intuition guide you in choosing the perfect crystal for you to use during meditation.
- What crystal do you feel drawn to?
Not sure which crystal to choose?
Here’s some suggestions to try:
- Moonstone
- Amethyst
- Rose Quartz
All of these will calm your thoughts and clear your mind. With practice, you’ll be confident in choosing your crystals to match your intentions.
As a reminder, when using crystals for meditation, you’ll want to clear and charge them often, so they don’t accumulate any negative energies.
Which Crystals Do I Need?
The short answer is none.
My Thoughts on Using Crystals
If you’ve read anything else I’ve done on crystals, then you’ll know that I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with them. Hear me out here.
I love them for the beauty and support they provide, but mining is something that creates environmental impact of which I am ever mindful. It’s our collective job to look out for Mother Earth and be mindful in the choices we make. I also believe that any rock or any other item that we find in nature can be substituted for them.
I’ve chosen to use only a few crystals that are good for multiple purposes. I have chosen those that I can use for manifesting, healing, spell work or clearing away negative energies. My personal collection is small, and each one is a multi-purpose crystal.
Clear quartz, selenite, amethyst, rose quartz, tiger’s eye and hematite are the ones I use over and over again, being sure to clear and program them accordingly.
I should also note that earlier in my witchcraft journey, I did use far more of them than I do today.
The beauty of the path of the witch is that we can choose what we feel aligned to and we’re free to change our minds as we grow in our practices, so just know that I am not in any way judging you if you have a different way of doing things. You should always make your practice your own.
So, with all of that in mind, here’s some good multi-purpose suggestions to get you started with your crystal journey:
Clear Quartz
This stone has an awakening sort of energy. It’s also associated with the crown chakra which helps you tap into your subconscious which in turn, will support your meditation practice. That’s a win-win!
Amethyst
Amethyst has strong healing energies.
It’s known for helping with physical ailments, emotional turmoil, traumas, and any negative energy you have. If you’re using meditation for creating harmony in your life, then amethyst is a good one to try.
Rose Quartz
This pink crystal is often associated with love, but it’s also good for creating positive energy within yourself. It can boost your self-esteem and support you in loving yourself when used in your meditation practice.
Selenite
Selenite is an excellent choice for meditation since it will help you connect to your higher self, but it’s also useful for keeping your home or workspace clear and assisting with energy healing. I think of this stone as a must-have in my small personal collection.
Black Tourmaline
Black tourmaline is a powerful stone that can help to absorb any negative energy you have. It will also help dissolve energy blocks, create positive mindset, and support any personal growth work you’re doing.
Using Crystals on the Go
We all know what it’s like to be a busy witch. So let your crystals do double duty. Wear your crystals as jewelry, put them in your pocket or slip them into your handbag or backpack.
Carrying them with you can help calm anxiety around things like driving. You can also try them for other fears like the fear of heights or fear of flying or about anything else that creates fear for you.
I always like to make a little magick every day, so using your crystals like this allows you to infuse their energies into your everyday life.
Using Crystals for the Chakras
The chakras are the energy centers in the body. The seven main ones that most of us work with are the root, sacral, solar plexus, heart, throat, third eye, and crown chakras.
When working with the chakras or balancing them, crystals can be added to your practice.
Here’s a few suggestions for each chakra:
Root Chakra
Your root chakra is all about grounding, so stones that remind you of the earth are going to be ideal. Crystals that are brown, black, or red are often chosen for this chakra.
For example, black crystals for the root chakra include black tourmaline, black obsidian, and jet. Red crystals include fire agate, bloodstone, and red jasper or brown crystals like smoky quartz, and tiger’s eye.
Sacral Chakra
Right above your navel is the sacral chakra. This one is all about your kidneys and reproductive organs.
Here, you’ll go with stones that help with sexual energy, health, and balance. Typically, the crystals used here are orange or peach, though some brown is mixed in as well.
Crystals for the sacral chakra include carnelian, citrine, imperial topaz, moonstone, peach selenite, and fire opal.
Solar Plexus
Next is the solar plexus chakra. For this one, choose crystals that are associated with self-love, confidence, and inner strength. Since the color associated with this chakra is yellow, crystals in shades of yellow or gold are usually chosen. Topaz, citrine, tiger’s eye, and golden calcite are some examples of crystals for this chakra.
Heart Chakra
The heart chakra color is green or pink (or both together). This energy center is about love and friendships, compassion and being able to be open with your feelings. Crystal chosen for this chakra are rose quartz, jade, green aventurine, peridot and emerald.
Throat Chakra
The throat chakra is the communication center. Its color is blue. If you’re struggling to talk about your feelings or using your voice to speak your truth, working with this chakra can assist you. Crystals chosen for this chakra are light blue or teal colored. Try lapis lazuli, aquamarine, blue topaz or celestite.
Third Eye Chakra
If you wish to improve your intuition or mystical abilities, then the third eye chakra might be your focus. The colors associated with this chakra are indigo, purple, or violet. Crystals like amethyst, tanzanite, iolite, and blue tourmaline are often chosen when working with this energy center.
Crown Chakra
That brings us to the crown chakra. This one is about your spiritual connection to the universe. The colors of stones used here can be purple, gold, or clear. Try selenite, white moonstone, white quartz, amethyst, selenite, or ametrine.

Crystals for Divination
If tarot cards, oracle cards or divination are part of your witchy practices, then crystals can become your partner in these practices.
Crystals like clear quartz and selenite can help open your third eye and enhance your intuition. You might choose a stone that matches your query or use one specific crystal that you program just for your divination work.
Try different ways of using crystals with divination to see what resonates with you.
Crystals for Altars & Offerings
Most witches will work with altars. There are many different types of altars.
Some are for working with deities. Some remain in place year-round, while others are only for one sabbat.
You might build one for the ancestors or for working with the moon. You might keep a daily altar or create one for a specific spell. You might even have a portable altar that you keep in an Altoids tin for making a little magick on the go.
The purpose of the altar can help you choose the stones you’d like to use for your altar.
You might also use chips of crystals as offerings in your practice. In this way, you can repurpose any broken crystals too. Just clear and charge the pieces for your offering.
Nature recycles everything, we should too.
Final Thoughts on Using Crystals
There are many ways to use crystals in your witchcraft practices and in your daily life. This is just a sampling. But hopefully it will inspire you to consider how crystals fit into your personal practices.
Blessed be.
