Green Witch Fall: Intention in the Time of Descent

Today, living Green Witch Fall with intention is something I do every year, but there was a time in my life when I moved through each season without really noticing anything at all, except the things that inconvenienced me. Like snow or fog.

You see, I was busy doing what I was told I should do. Following the pathway set out for me by others when I was still in high school. “Living the dream” was how it was sold to me, but the reality is that it led me nowhere except into depression and near self-destruction.

But that’s a story for another day.

Today, I move through the world differently. With awareness, curiosity, eyes open, heart forward and spirit aligned.

Witchery is a journey of self-discovery and transformation, so with that in mind, let’s look at how  the fall season invites us to reflect on how we want to move through the world.

This Green Witch Fall: Be Intentional

Are you just getting through the fall season?

Bracing yourself for the turning of the calendar, but not really invested?

Enduring it but not enjoying it?

Sleepwalking?

Unsure of what comes next?

I’ve been there too, but it doesn’t have to be like that. So that’s your first step. Believing something different is possible.

Then, step two is to decide that you’ll navigate your green witch fall with intention by choosing to see it as a magickal time that offers unique wisdom and lessons. A time filled with opportunity and wonder.

Here are ways you can be a conscious creator of your own sacred descent into fall:

See Your Green Witch Fall as a Sacred Journey

In nature, the fall is the season of descent and it is powerful.

Nature doesn’t go through the season passively.

The trees willingly surrender their leaves.

The animals naturally accept that the sun sets at 5 pm.

The trees and the animals trust the cycle.

What if you did that? What if you trusted your cycles?

Our society teaches us to resist anything that feels like slowing down or taking a break. Busyness is glorified. Resting is labeled laziness.

But, what if taking a step back is the most useful thing you can do?

If you were a tree, would you panic when you lose your leaves?

Of course not.

If you were an animal that hibernates in winter, would you refuse to do it?

No again.

To be clear, softening against any resistance to honoring your own cycles is enough.

Releasing What No Longer Serves You

Not everything in life is meant to stay.

This is one of the most tender truths of living.

As green witches, our work is tied to the cycles and rhythms of Mother Earth. The turning of the Wheel. The waxing and waning phases of the moon. The budding season of spring and the dying away of fall.

Fall invites us into releasing all that’s no longer serving us. Harvesting the wisdom and lessons, clearing space for something new and letting things go with reverence and gratitude.

.

 A Simple Ritual

Choose a time that feels right to you.

You’ll need:

  • A candle
  • Your journal or paper
  • A fire-proof bowl or access to an outdoor space
  1. Light the candle.
Sit quietly for a few moments and let your breath anchor you to this time and space. Allow your body to soften as you become present.
  2. Write down all the things that you’re ready to release.
Approach this with honesty and kindness for yourself. You’re not judging these things, just naming them. You might release old stories, outgrown beliefs, fears, patterns of behavior that you don’t want to carry forward with you into a new season.
  3. Read your list aloud.
Feel gratitude for the role it played in your life, even if it wasn’t something that felt good to you. See it going away from you as you do this.
  4. Burn or bury the paper.

If you can burn the paper safely in your fire-proof container, then when you’re ready, do so. If you can’t, then you can also bury your list in the ground. If neither option is available to you, then tear your list into tiny pieces.

Finish with a statement like this:  “I release what no longer serves me. I gratefully acknowledge what has been and open to what comes next.”

Tip:  Write your own for even greater impact.

Then sit quietly for a few minutes. Breathe deeply. Feel that it is done.

Green Witch Fall: Letting Things Go

Green Witch Fall:  3 Tips for Navigating the Descent with Intention

  1. Let it be messy.
This season, journal about the hard stuff. Feel everything that comes up without any ideas about fixing it. Your shadow is a teacher and is here to guide you. Exploring those aspects of yourself are often hard, but pay off big.
  2. Choose ritual, ditch routine.
You know that feeling of just pushing ahead through the day? Well your days can be more than a long list of to-do’s. Consider how you can make this day sacred? Bring a little magick to the ordinary. Maybe light a candle, pause before your meals to say a prayer of gratitude or even mentally review how blessed you are while washing dishes.
  3. Go deeper, not wider.
Allow your energy to move inward. Choose the things that matter most and make those the priority. Pull back from saying yes to too many things. Focus on what truly matters to you. Not to everyone else.

Make Room for this Version of You

I’m not the same version of myself in every season of the year. The version that arrives with the lengthening shadows of fall is a bit more practical than her summer counterpart.

A bit more reserved, but also carries a renewed sense of energy.

She changes like the leaves and I don’t expect the same version of her to show up two years in a row. She reveals new things to me that I missed in every fall season that came before.

Make space for what shows up within you this season and be open to the wisdom offered.

Summary:  Green Witch Fall

The fall season is a journey of self-discovery and transformation if you approach it with intention.

By consciously aligning yourself to nature’s rhythms, you can let go of what no longer serves you while simultaneously making space for something new. Welcome in your ever-evolving version of yourself and decide to navigate this season of descent with intention, awareness, and a renewed sense of your personal power.

Do you already do any of these or will you try any of these in your Green Witch Fall? You can send me a message here.
